Just like human, pets (cats and dogs) also have different blood types. For example, cat blood types include A, B and AB, while dog blood type include DEA 1.1, etc. Since animals will have very strong antibodies against the wrong type of blood. The body immune system recognizes noncompatible blood as foreign, and attacks and destroys the blood as if it were a virus or bacteria. When a pet receives a blood transfusion and the wrong blood is given, this transfusion reaction can quickly kill the individual animal.

Canine Blood Type Rapid Test Kit Principle

The current Canine Blood Type Rapid Test Kit is a lateral flow immunoassay rapid test kit, for the quick determination of blood type DEA 1.1, the main blood type in dogs. It is easy to get the visual result in just 10min.   The rapid test card is coated with anti-DEA 1.1 blood type antibody, which can capture different blood cells and produce visible lines on the Test Lines.  On the control line, the anti-mouse antibody is coated which will capture the blood-cell-antibody complex and always produce the visible Control Line regardless of the Test Lines.

Canine Blood Type Rapid Test Kit Result determination

The left picture explains the test result. On the test card there are Control Line (C) and Test Line (T). The final results depend on the visibility of the lines, that is,

• When C &T are both visible, the test result is positive, the blood type is DEA 1.1.
• When C is visible, T is invisible, the test result is negative, the blood type is not DEA 1.1.
• When Control line is not visible, the result is in valid.

Specificity and sensitivity

According to internal validation and comparison with real-time PCR testing, this kit demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity. The test result is also comparable with other commercial canine blood type test kit. Data can be provided upon request.

Storage and expiry

2-30 degree Celsius for at least 12 months.

Caution

• Control line is used as for quality control, in case of invisible control line, please run the test again with new test kit.
• The test card is used for only once. Do not use repeatedly.
• The sample for testing is fresh blood cell suspension (BCS), prepared by adding one drop of blood into the sample buffer provided in the kit. If the BCS is too thick, the result may not be accurate. Strictly follow the instruction manual for details.
